James Colton, a former well known resident of this county, passed away at Washington Monday evening, January 20, 1913. He was born in Kennewango, Pa., January 22, 1832. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Colton, who were natives of Ireland. At the age of seven he came with is parents to Louisa county and lived for many years in Union township. He was married May 15, 1867 to Catherine McSweeny, who survives. One son, Cyril Colton, at home and three daughters, Mrs. T. W. Blair of Buffalo, Kan., Mrs. Rufus Orr of Mt. Morrison, Col., and Miss Helen at home also survives to mourn his death. Three brothers, John and Thomas, living northwest of this city and Frank of Columbus City, also survive his death.

For the past ten months Mr. Colton and family have lived on Washington. For many years he was one of the prominent stockmen of the county but retired from business about eight years ago. The cause of his death was paralysis. He recently united with the Catholic church at Washington. The remains were brought to this city Wednesday morning.
