Mrs. Elizabeth P. Duncan, wife of Francis Marion Duncan of Union township and one of the most highly esteemed women of her neighborhood, passed away at an early hour Friday morning, January 3, 1913. Elizabeth Sands, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah Sands, was born in Blount county, Tennessee, September 8, 1842 and at the time of her death was past 70 years of age. On the 13th of October 1864 she was united in marriage to Francis Marion Duncan and moved with him onto the farm in Union township.

To them were born the following children: Joseph Carter, of this city; Melvin, deceased; William Nelson, Ida. L., wife of Harry Edwards and Reuben Harrison, all living in Union township; Frank M., who lives in this city; Earl, deceased; and Jesse at home. Mrs. Duncan was a devoted member of the United Presbyterian church and took an active interest in its welfare. Funeral service were held from the home at one o'clock, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. B. Lawrence. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
