Richard Kerr

The funeral services of Richard Kerr, who died at his home in this city November 20th, were held from the Presbyterian church Thursday last conducted by Reverend Wm. Mackay. The interment was in the Concord cemetery. His son, James Kerr, and wife, were here from Cedar Rapids to attend the funeral services.

He was born in Bedford county in Pennsylvania, May 16th, 1820, and reached the ripe age of 86 years, 6 months and 4 days. He moved from Pennsylvania to Jackson Town, Licking county Ohio, in 1840. In Ohio, on the 8th of March, 1849, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Ferrel. To this union were born five children, three of whom survive him.

In 1852 he moved from Ohio to New London Iowa, and from there to Morning Sun in 1856. In 1859 his wife died. On October 18th, 1862, he was united in marriage to Amanda Elvina Miller To this second union eight sons and one daughter were born, of whom all are living except the daughter. He leaves his wife and eleven children and a number of grandchildren to mourn his loss.
