page 7Lewis Beik was born in Baden, German, December 18, 1835 and died at his home in Louisa county, Iowa, December 13, 1907, aged 71 years, 11 months and 25 days. He was the son of Frederick and Sarah Beik and came with his parents to America in 1845. In 1846 the family located on a farm near Grandview where he was reared and where he resided until the time of his death. On 14, of February, 1864 he was married to Miss Lovey Godfrey. To them three children were born; Nettie, now Mrs. Jacob Bentz; Luelta, now Mrs. Graham and May, now Mrs. Wilson, all of whom were with their father during his sickness and who did all loving daughters could do to minister to their father during his affliction. He also leaves five grand children, one brother, Jacob and one sister, Mrs. Bentz, of Muscatine. His wife died in 1903 but he continued to reside on his farm with his daughter, Mrs. Bentz. Mr. Beik was very much attached to his home, seldom leaving it unless called away on business. He was a good neighbor and citizen, an affectionate husband and father, and left a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his departure. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday December 15, conducted by Rev. C. L. Wilson, of Columbus City, assisted by Rev. Mogier, of Grandview. Interment in the Grandview cemetery.
