Mrs. J. H. Henderson dead.

Lydia Ellen Foster was born in Louisa county, Iowa, February 16, 1854. She was united in marriage with James H. Henderson, December 21, 1871. To this union were born seven children; W. O., who lives in Cloud county, Kansas; George F., in Oklahoma; S. L., at Florene, Nebraska; Mrs. Ora B. King, of Minneapolis, Kansas; Mrs. Effie M. Wells, of Oak Hill, Kansas; Mary J., at home. One son died in infancy. Mrs. Henderson move with her husband to Mahaska county, Iowa, February 1872. In September, 1878, she moved with her family to Cloud county, Kansas, which continued to be her home until her death. She was taken sick Monday evening, May 20, with appendicitis; on Thursday afternoon an operation was performed, but with all the care of a trained nurse and loving friends, she was called from her earthly cares, Monday afternoon, May 27, 1907.

She was converted while young and was baptized and joined the M. E. church at Fredonia, Iowa. She tried to serve her Lord faithfully and she spoke often about him during her illness. She ministered to the sick and helped the poor and needy. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her family, four brothers and three sisters; F. M. Foster, of Illinois; H. H. of Wakefield, Kansas; A. J. and S. D. of Louisa county, Iowa; Mrs. A. H. Compton, of Rochester, Washington; Mrs. T. B. Cross, of Grandview, Iowa and Mrs. A. C. McCutcheon, of Miltonvale, Kansas. Her funeral services were conducted at the Christian church, by Rev. Jas Denton, Wednesday afternoon, May 29, at 2 o'clock. Her father's funeral was held May 29, 1867; just forty years prior, at the same hour, the same day of the week and the same day of the same month. Three brothers and two sister were permitted to attend the funeral; one son did not arrive until the next day after the funeral. She was laid to rest in the Oakland cemetery.
