Conesville, March 4 - The funeral of the late John F. Snyder was held at Grace Reformed church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Vance, of Columbus Junction, officiating. He spoke some very comforting words from the text, "There is but a step between me and death." Mr. Snyder was born in Germany, February 2, 1832. Came to Portsmouth, Ohio, with his parents when nine years of age, where he grew to manhood and selected for his life partner, Miss Rosanna Chapman. They were married January 4, 1857 and the most of their married life has been spent here, as Mr. Snyder claimed the distinction of building the first house and being the first settler of Orono.

To this union were born eleven children. Those remaining are: Mrs. Belle Ferry, of Kansas; Mrs. Emma McCleary, of Rock Island; Mrs. Albert Cecil, Of Hendrick and Mrs. Josie Bowlby, Mmes Minnie, Mary and Jennie Maxwell and Elbert C. Snyder of Conesville. These besides the devoted wife and one brother, mourn the death of their dear one. Mr. Snyder was not a member of any church, but we never heard a harmful word said of him. Little did anyone think but two short months ago, January 4, when he and his good wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary that the end would come so soon.
