Mrs. H. S. May died at her home near here Sunday morning, May 13, after an illness extending over some weeks. She had a very severe illness a few weeks ago, from which she did not fully recover, though she had been up and around. Her maiden name was Clara J. Woodard and she was born at Cold Water, Michigan, August 23, 1848. When quite young she came to Iowa and has made her home here ever since. She was married to Lemuel J. Plattor in 1870, and to them two daughters were born; Eutie, who died a few years ago and Stella, who is now Mrs. W. H. Langenberg and who lives in Columbus Junction. Mrs. Plattor was married to H. S. May October 10, 1880 and they have lived in Columbus City or near there ever since.

Mrs. May was an admirable woman in all the relations of life. She was cultured and refined, being a musician of more than ordinary ability and a teacher of music at Columbus City and Columbus Junction for many years. Her health has been rather delicate for a long time, but she devoted herself to her home and family and was ever cheerful and uncomplaining. She had long been an earnest member of the Presbyterian church and was always faithful in her attendance when her health permitted. She had the love and admiration of all who knew her, for her gentle and womanly qualities attracted all who met her and she will long be missed and mourned. Besides her heart broken husband and daughter, she leaves a brother and sister and many friends and relatives to mourn her going. The funeral was held at the family home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, May 16, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Vance. Interment was at Columbus City.
