Miss Lida Black was born in Boone county, Ky., on May 31st, 1844 and died at her home 2 1/2 miles northeast of Conesville, at 6:10 Tuesday evening, April 10, 1906. She was one of six daughters and five sons born to Benjamin and Francis Moore Black. One son and four daughters died in infancy. Her sister, Mrs. Martha M. Wilkins, died in Muscatine, October 12, 1882. Her mother died on January 15, 1884. Her father passed away on April 18, 1885, making one year, three months and three days between each death.

She came with her parents to Iowa in October 1852 and Muscatine county continued to be her residence during the remainder of her life, with the exception of a short residence in Cedar county. From 1852 to 1867 the family the family resided in Cedar Valley; from 1867 to 1889, east of Nichols. On February 27, 1889, she had her brother, J. W. Black and family moved to the place which has since been her home. In early life she united with the Christian church at West Liberty. Since her residence here she has been a regular attendant of the M. E. church and a faithful member of the Ladies' Aid society. She is survived by four brothers: James M. Black, Audubon; Robert C. Black, Nichols; Arthur L. Black, Newton, Alabama and John W. Black, from whom she had never been separated since his birth except when making visits to relatives and friends for a few short weeks. She also leaves to mourn her departure, four nephews, W. L. Black, Atalissa; B. H. Black, Nichols; B. J. Black, Audubon; Elmer W. Black, Conesville. Also four nieces, Mrs. O. L. Pyeatte, Muscatine; Mrs. Maude Rishell, Berry; Miss Emma Black, Audubon; Miss Elma Mae Black, St Andrew Bay, Florida.

Funeral services were held at the home, Friday morning, April 13, conducted by Rev. E. A. Brinton, of the M. E. church, Conesville. The body was laid to rest beside her mother in the family lot in the Nichols cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Allen McCurdy, J. H. Krider, George Brown, John Gunderson, M. P. McKeown and S. D. Foster.
