John Kenedy Smith. On April 13, 1906, this most excellent man and citizen passed away at the good, ripe age of more than 84 years. Mr. Smith was born in the north of Ireland in August 1831. He came to America in 1839, stopping first in New York City. Fifty five years ago he came to Iowa first settling in Clinton county, a few years subsequently to this county occupying the farm that continued his homestead through life. He was never married and never a member of any church, but a good, honest man and most pleasant to the family that constituted his home. He had been in feeble health for almost five years, but had been confined to his room only about three months. He leaves no brothers or sisters he being the last of his family. His only known relatives in this country are two nieces and a nephew; Mrs. Sarah Burns, of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Emma Raymond of Washington, D. C. and Geo. Cavanaugh of this vicinity. The funeral occurred from the home, April 15, at 2 o'clock, p. m. conducted by Rev. J. C. Kendrick. Interment in Columbus City cemetery.
