The death of Seymore C. Snyder, which occurred at the residence of Dr. Summers at 9:30 Tuesday morning came as a shock to this community. All knew him to be in poor health but none had heard of his dangerous illness. It was only the Friday before that he and wife were taken from their home in Fredonia to the doctor's place in order that they might be better cared for. He had been along time resident of this community and was well know in this and Henry counties.

Mr. Snyder was born in Chittenden county, Vermont, March 27, 1821. In 1842 he was married to Miss Harriet Southmaid. At that time he was twenty-one years of age, his wife not quite fifteen. As no child was ever born to them, they trod life's pathway alone. In 1856 they came to Iowa, first living in Des Moines county, near Burlington. They subsequently moved up to near Crawfordsville, then to near Cairo, afterwards to Henry county, finally settling at this place something over twenty years ago. They lived in Oakland township for a year or so and then bought property in Fredonia, which continued their home to the end. The funeral was held from the residence of Dr. Summers this afternoon at 2 O'clock, conducted by Rev. Vance; interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
