Mrs. Amanda J. Wilcox passed away at her home in this place at about 5:30 o'clock, Thursday evening, November 16, after an illness of two months or more. She was born in Blount county, Tennessee, November 9, 1827, being a little past seventy-seven years of age at the time of her death. She grew to woman hood in her native state and was married there in 1847 to S. S. Wilcox and made their home in Louisa county; first in Union township and then, for many years, in Columbus Junction. To them were born nine children, six of whom survive. These are O. P., F. N., James, S. S., Mrs. Margaret Foster and Miss Annetta. All of these live in Columbus Junction except James whose home is at Wallsburg, Washington.

Mrs. Wilcox had been an invalid for some years and for the past months severely ill. Her children, especially Miss Annetta, gave her the most untiring devotion. Mrs. Wilcox was a faithful wife and affectionate mother and a devout Christian, having been a member of the U. P. Church from early girlhood. The funeral was held at the home conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. C. Marshall. The pall bearers were Robert, Frank and Orley Wilcox, Edgar Todd, Clyde Duncan and Roy Edwards, the first four being her grandsons. The interment was at Columbus City, beside her husband.
