N. B. Richey, of Lone Tree, died at his home, Tuesday evening, January 10, 1905. He was pioneer in that section of the country, having settled there in an early day. Came there from Ohio long before the days of the railroads and bridges, or ferryboats, even. Hauled the lumber for his first buildings and fences by ox teams from Muscatine, coming by way of the old Port Allen ferry to cross the Cedar river.

He was born in Pennsylvania, February 2, 1835. Went to Ohio when quite young. There he married Miss Kate Loehr and with her came to Iowa and settled in the immediate vicinity of Lone Tree, and there passed the remained of his life. To them, twelve children were born, seven sons and five daughters. He was the first death to occur in the family, the wife and all the children survive him, The children are J. N., D. H., B. A., E. A., Mrs. L. J. Porter, Mrs. Maud Levrich and Misses Kate and Grace, all of Lone tree; C. H., C. C. and F. L. of near this place; and Mrs. Ella Faulkner, of Loveland, Colorado.

The funeral occurs at 2 o'clock p. m. today, Thursday, from his home in Lone Tree, conducted by Rev. C. N. Pace, of the Methodist church, of which denomination Mr. Richey had long been a member. Interment at Lone Tree cemetery.
