Nellie Schanning dead. This has been a sad Christmas time to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Schanning, of Fredonia. After long months of hoping against hope, weary watching and loving devotion to her, Nellie passed away from them Thursday, of the dread disease, consumption. Though only an adopted daughter, their affection could not have been warmer, nor their grief deeper for their own. Nellie Blanche Bowden was born in Kansas City, Mo., March 22, 1886. She lacked a few months of being nineteen when the messenger came. She had been sick for fifteen months. Besides her foster parents, she leaves a father, three sisters and a brother living, all in Kansas City except one sister who lives in Topeka, Kansas. The funeral occurred from the Methodist church in Fredonia Saturday at 10 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. C. Kendrick, assisted by Rev. A. B. Chamberlin. The pall bearers were her girl friends and school mates, Misses Gertie and Mae McDaniel, Lulu Curtis, Nellie Gambell, Nettie Skipton and Glatis Blake.
