Though not at all unexpected, the death of Edwin Rasley at this place Wednesday, November 22, came as a shock to us all. He was born in Columbus City February 8, 1865, and his whole life was passed in this immediate vicinity. Everybody knew him and all were his friends. He had no enemies. Though feeble from childhood and, at times, a great sufferer, his natural kind and cheerful disposition hid his troubles so that only his intimate friends knew of his real sufferings and sorrows.

Mr. Rasley united with the Presbyterian church at this place, June 9, 1883 and continued an active, earnest, consistent member till death. In April, 1900 he was elected a ruling elder which position he held to the end. The funeral occurred from the Presbyterian church, Friday, November 25, at 2 o'clock p. m. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. R. Vance. The pall bearers were W. S. Huston, J. B. Reaney, J. A. Hanft, A. J. Schmoker, E. W. Murdock and Herman Arning, All old and intimate acquaintances and friends of the deceased. Three brothers, Harry and Arthur, of Cedar Rapids and Will, of Mt. Vernon, were at the funeral. Also a cousin, Miss Mary A. McElroy, of Washington and Mrs. W. H, Hughes, of the same place.
