Thomas Benton Brummage was born in Union county, Indiana, July 26, 1834, and died in the Soldier's Home at Marshalltown, Iowa, May 24, 1904. During the war of the rebellion he served his county for four years as a member of the 16th Iowa Infantry. He was a prisoner of war eight months during that time he contracted rheumatism from which he has been a constant sufferer ever since; the last two years of his life being spent in the hospital. He was married at Columbus Junction in 1895 to Mrs. Rhoda Van Houten and to this union one child was born, which died in infancy. Mrs. Brummage died five years ago. He was one of a family of twelve children, only two of whom survive him; they are his sisters, Mrs. Lydia Lathrop, of Minnesota, and Mrs. Adelaide Royce, of this place. Deceased was well known to many of our readers, his entire life since the war being spent at Columbus Junction until three years ago he became an inmate of the Soldier's Home.
