The death of Joseph Van Auken Monday morning came as a sort of whack to our people though those who knew of the condition of his health were prepared to hear of his demise in this way at any time. He had been doing barber work Saturday and appeared about as usual on Sunday. On Monday morning between four and five O'clock he waked his father by calling out. Almost immediately the falling of a heavy body was heard in his room. He had been afflicted with heart trouble for years and this was the cause of his death. He was born in 1868. Lived all his life at this place except two or three yeas spent in Chicago. He leaves a wife and two children. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place from the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Van Auken, Tuesday, December 2, at 1 o'clock p. m., conducted by Rev. J. C. Kendrick, pastor of the M. E. church. Interment followed in Columbus City cemetery.
