The sudden and shocking death of Mrs. Sterlin, which was announced last week, occurred at and early hour on Thursday, October 22, at her home in Fredonia. She was the eldest of a large family, five sons and six daughters, the sons all having died. Her sisters are Mrs. Jennie Schanning of Fredonia, Mrs. Margaret Jackson of Des Moines, Mrs. Lou Wilson of Colorado, Mrs. Alice Hudler of Michigan and Mrs. Laura Byram of Des Moines. These were all present at the funeral except Mrs. Jackson who was ill.

Mrs. Sterlin was born near Morning Sun July 10, 1840, and the claim has been made that she was the first white child born in Louisa county. At the age of eighteen she was married to Andrew Koontz, and to this union were born two sons and one daughter, only the daughter, Mrs Edna Hasse, of Hoxie, Arkansas, surviving. Sometime after the death of her first husband she was married to Dr. Dill and to them were born two daughters, both of whom are living. These are Mrs. Adrian Reynolds of Fredonia and Miss Georgia Dill who is making her home with her sister in Arkansas. Her third husband was the late John Sterlin to whom she was married about seventeen years ago and who was killed by the cars at Muscatine within a year of his marriage to her. Mrs. Sterlin was a kind neighbor and friend and a loving mother and will be greatly missed in this community where she had lived so long. The funeral occured on Saturday in Fredonia, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. C. Kendrick.
