Silas Thorley passes away. The subject of this sketch was born in Wayne county, Ohio, in 1840 and died at his home in Columbus City, Iowa, December 5, 1902. He came to Iowa in 1856 and 1870 was married to Miss Mary E. Long of Ohio, who with her two sons, F. A. and C. I., survive the husband and father. He was a faithful and earnest Christian from boyhood and was at the time of his death a member of the Methodist church at Columbus City. He had lived for a number of years in Elm Grove township where he had many friends. He had been ailing for several years, but had only been seriously ill for about three weeks. The funeral occurred on Sunday conducted by Rev. Cannom of the M. E. church. The burial was in Columbus City cemetery, after which the service was held in the M. E. church.
