Willis H. Letts has passed away. On Thursday night, October 2, at about 10 o'clock he quietly breathed his last, the cause of death being heart failure. The whole community was shocked to learn of his death. it was know that he had been ailing for some days, but no one thought for a moment that it would terminate fatally. He had been about the post office in the morning. He went home in the forenoon and did not return. He was out about the home in the afternoon but complained of not feeling well; about 8 o'clock he felt worse and a physician was summoned and prescribed some simple remedy saying he thought nothing serious ailed him, and went away. He returned again, however, about 9 o'clock, but at that time he saw no change for the worse and told Mrs. Letts and Lottie that as it would be necessary for them to be up early, it might be better for them to retire. They had gone upstairs, when a marked change for the worse occurred and the family were immediately called. Another physician and friends were hastily summoned, but before any of them arrived, the end had come.

Mr. Letts was born in LaSalle county, Illinois, January 30, 1853. He came with his parents to Iowa in the following year, and this was his home until death. In 1874 he was married to Miss Susie A. Lacey, who with the three children born to the union, survive the husband and father. These are Miss Lottie, who has been connected with the post office since her father's appointment; Florence, who is with her mother, and Howard, now attending school in Philadelphia.

Owing to the extremely inclement weather, the funeral which was to have been on Saturday, was postponed until Sunday, October 5, which proved to be an ideal autumn day. The services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Monroe Drew of the Presbyterian church and were attended by a large concourse of relative and sympathizing friends. The burial took place at Grandview in the afternoon, when he was laid to rest beside his parents.
