George Spaeth was born near Columbus City, Iowa, May 12, 1874, and died at his home in Columbus City at 4 o'clock a. m. Thursday, October 2, 1902, of appendicitis and complications, after an illness of less than one week. The funeral services were held at the U. B. church on the Sunday following, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Bullard, and the burial was under the auspices of the Odd fellows. He was united in Marriage to Miss Dena Burns, October 9, 1897. To them were born two sons, Earl and Roy, aged four and three years respectively. There with their mother are left to mourn their great loss.

At the age of two years Mr. Spaeth went to live with his aunt, Mrs. Geo. Schmidt, of Columbus City. During his childhood, youth and more than four years of his married life he lived with them and worked at the blacksmith trade with Mr. Schmidt. Last February he purchased a home in the city and he and his family went to themselves and he continued to work with his uncle. The last work he did was to shoe a horse on the Saturday morning before his death, and he was taken home immediately after, very sick, and his sufferings were great until death came to his relief when he passed quietly to the great beyond. He was a young man of excellent morals, industrious and much stemmed by all who knew him.
