A. J. Foster was born o Pike county, Ohio, September 28, 1830, and died in Columbus Junction, Iowa, October 1, 1902. He was married to Miss Margaret Lawrence in 1853 and moved to Iowa the same year. To them was born one child, Mrs. Louisa Crim, who is living in Columbus Junction.

He lived on a farm in Union township until 1885 when he came to Columbus Junction, which was his home during the remainder of his life. His wife died in 1889 and he then went to live with his brother Isaac. He made his home with him until he removed to his farm in February 1901, at which time he took up his residence with his nephew E. T. Foster, who with his wife gave him the kindest care and attention that could be given until he died. He had been afflicted with a cancer on his face for about two years. In June he went with Mr. F. T. Foster to Cincinnati, where he was treated for five weeks and was much benefited. Two weeks before his death he said he felt better than he had in a long time, but about that time he had a stroke of paralysis and then gradually sank until death came. He was for many years an active member of the Reformed church and was instrumental in having the church built at Bethel. The funeral was held at the home of E. T. Foster on Friday morning, October 3, conducted by Rev. Orr and the interment was at Bethel cemetery on Goose creek.
