Another old citizen is gone in the person of Asher Dennis. He was born in Wythe county, Virginia, June 3, 1829; died at the home of his son, William, July 3, 1902, aged 73 years and one month. Though born in Virginia he lived some years in Indiana before making his home in Iowa in the year 1844. His wife, who died some years since, was a Miss Nancy Graham, to who he was married February 17, 1851. Ten children were born to this union. Those living are: Mrs. Joseph Kauffman, of Union township; Joyce of Nebraska; Mrs. Hayden, of Colorado; John and William and Mrs. Wm Hahn, Columbus Junction, Mrs. Asheman, of Muscatine; Mrs Sarah Billtauft, who lives in Nebraska. One son died in infancy and another child, Mrs. Jane Drake, died in Nebraska.

He was a member of the German Reformed church. He enlisted in the rebellion in 1864 and served to the end of the war. In the death of Mr. Dennis, Louisa county loses a good citizen, his children a loving father, and his friends a kind neighbor, one who called every man friend and no man enemy. All who knew him respected him very highly and mourn his loss most sincerely. Funeral services conducted by Rev. T. B. DeVore at chapel in Union township. He was interred beside his wife in Tennessee cemetery.
