Mrs. Mary Hines Orr, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Hines, was born in Des Moines county, Ia, April 3, 1850. She was united in marriage with Mr. George Orr, November 26, 1868. After six years suffering death came to her relief, September 11, being 51 years, five months and eight days of age. She leaves in her immediate family a grief stricken husband, two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Ulm, Irene, the former's husband, one grandchild, two sisters, and a gentleman, who has for years made his home with them and to whom she was ever as a mother, to mourn her departure.

Mrs. Orr lived not only for the comfort of her family; but also for those around her. She was a fond wife, and a loving mother who made home a refuge from the world's troubles, a shelter from the storms of contention and worry where her love and counsel gave hope, energy, and happiness to husband and children. The death of Mrs. Orr has filled the family and friends with a sorrow which seems unbearable, yet they weep, no as one without hope for they are assured she has only exchanged the trials and afflictions of this vale of tears- this suffering, dying world for the glories of eternity; there to enjoy the glorious presence of the Lord Jesus in mansions of endless felicity. Truly a good woman has gone to swell the number of the redeemed. May the Heavenly Father comfort the bereaved ones in their great affliction with the thought that although she cannot come back to them, they may go to her. Rev. Jenkins of the Congregational church officiated at the house, from whence they proceeded to Col. City, where the funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church by Elder J. M. Mullen, of the church of God, assisted by Rev. Taylor, of the M. E. church, both of Columbus City. The remains were interred in the Columbus City cemetery, there to await the resurrection of the just.
