After many years of watching and waiting Father Isaac Welsh passed quietly and peacefully away, Monday, July 1, at 11:30 in the morning. His sickness dated back many years and that he had survived so many attacks seemed remarkable. He was born near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; June 4, 1825. His father died in 1830.

In 1836 he came to Indiana where he labored on a farm, receiving the limited education afforded by the common schools of that day. His first marriage occurred in 1849, to Miss Phoebe Ogden, of Indiana. Mrs. Welsh died in 1868. Of the five children born to them three survive. These are M. B. and David N., of Colorado, and Miss Jessie, whose home has been with her father. In 1869 Mr. Welsh was married to Mrs. B. A. Flint, formerly Miss White, a sister to Mrs. Russell and Mrs. Carr, of this place. The second wife died in the spring of 1898.

In 1853, with his family, he came to Iowa, settling near Birmingham. He lived in that part of the state and in Keokuk county, near Martinsburg, until February, 1877, when he came to Columbus Junction. This continued to be his home until death. Mr. Welsh was a whig; then a republican, though we understand he at times supported the prohibition ticket. In his politics as in every thing else we think he was a conscientious and sincere man. He was an active and influential Methodist and took the keenest interest and greatest delight in working for the good of the church. He was as far as human sense can judge, a good man. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the church conducted by the pastor, Rev. F. W. Adams. The remains were then taken to Martinsbury for interment.
