Thomas Ogier was born February 11, 1827, in Guernsey county, Ohio, died at his home near Cotter, Iowa, July 23, 1897. Bro Ogier was doing little chores around on Friday and seemed to be in as good health as usual and asked his daughter if she had anything she wanted him to do and she said there was nothing; so he went out to the barrack where the men were stacking hay, was there only a short time until her fell off and was taken up dead. Bro. Ogier was married March 4th 1847, to Nancy Grimes. To this union were born eight children. Four of these preceded father and mother to the glory world. The surviving ones are Mrs. J. k. Blair, Wm Ogier, Mrs. J.J. Stapp and Lou Ogier, all of this county. Mother Ogier died about seven years ago and since that time he has been very much broken up and has often been heard to say "To die would be gain." He had been a christian since he was 13 years of age. Services were conducted by his former pastor, bro. Coates of Ainsworth, assisted by the pastor, J. W. Carson, at the Columbus City M. E. church. Besides his children, he leaves 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren to mourn his loss.
