Jerome Derby was born in Shaftsbury, Bennington county, Vermont in 1853. He died at his home in Grandview township, July 15, 1897. He leaves a wife, two daughters and a son to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. He was married to Miss Lucinda Wyman, in 1868. Four children, three daughters and one son were born to them. One daughter died several years ago, the children living are Mary Allen, of Illinois and Alma Burtnett, of Chicago and Oliver of Port Louisa township this county. The funeral occurred at his home Friday, July 16, at 1 o'clock p. m.; interment in the Harrison cemetery. Mr. Derby was a good citizen and one who will be greatly missed in the community.
