Letts, July 13 - D. E. Colbert died at the home of his daughter, Ireana Anderson, near Muscatine, July 9, 1897. He was aged 88 years. He was born in the city of New York and at an early age with his parents moved to Lebonon, Ohio. On February 4, 1830, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Mewhirter and to them were born five children, four of whom are still living; Wm Colbert, What Cheer; Luther Colbert, Letts; Mrs. Irena Anderson, Muscatine, and Mrs. Amanda Thompson, Letts. In 1833, with his wife and one child he moved to Indiana where he lived until March, 1851, when he moved to Iowa. He lived on a farm two miles southeast of Letts until 1868 when he moved to Muscatine where he has since resided. He united with the Christian church 54 years ago. His end was peaceful. He leaves a number of grandchildren besides a home of friends. He was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery of Muscatine beside his wife who preceded him ten years ago.
