Willie Schmidt, a sixteen-year-old boy of Fredonia, was drowned in the Iowa near the east pier of the C. R. I & P. railroad bridge Tuesday evening about ? Two or three companions were with him, none of whom seemed to know how or why the accident happened. It was all done so quickly and so unexpectedly that the boys seemed dazed over it. He could not swim and got beyond his depth was l there was to the accident. The body was recovered in less than an hour, but of course too late to bring life back to the dead. The funeral occurred at 4 o'clock the next afternoon. The drowned boy leaves a widowed mother, three bothers and three sisters. One of the former; Fred, is with Bollenbach of this place. One sister is the wife of N. L. Miller of Louisiana; another is Mrs. Geo. Kranz of Muscatine.
