Shake Rag, April 5- Grandma McKay, mention of whose serious illness appeared in these columns some time ago, was called from earthly scenes Thursday, April 1st, 1897. Her age was almost eighty years. She was one of the early settler of this county. A widow at the breaking out of the war, she bravely consented to offer as a probable sacrifice to the cause of the Union the two sons of the family; N. W. as a member of the 6th Iowa volunteers and Dan of the 19th. Though both carry evidences of the conflict, both were spared to give to a loving mother a home in her declining years. One daughter, Mrs. J. M. Davis, of Chillicothe, Missouri, and the sons above mentioned survive her. The funeral was from the residence of her son Dan, with whom she had made her home for several years and was largely attended by relatives and friends. The remains were laid to rest Friday, the 2nd of April, in the Wapello cemetery.
