Wapello, March 11- Silas Christman died at his place four miles below here a few days since. He was one of the earliest settlers of Louisa county. came here in 1836 and has lived here ever since. At one time he owned or had an interest in a little farm known as the Acheson farm. Later as the Sites place under the bluff south of this place. But for many years he had loved on a piece of ground allowed him by M. J. Deihl. On the Acheson place is a cotton tree fully five feet in diameter at the root. Christman stuck it in the ground a mere switch in 1838. To look at the tree it would be pronounced a century old. That tree should be allowed to stand as a monument to the old man just dead and gone.
