Abraham Owen was born in Breckenridge county, Kentucky, August 17, 1816 and died at Niangua, Missouri, February 24, 1897, at 4:10 p. m. This would make him something over 80 years of age at the time of death. He was converted at the age of 21 and became a member of the Baptist church at Goshen, Kentucky, and was a consistent member of that organization to the time of his death. In 1843, Sept 3, he was married to Miss Margaret B. White, who survives him. Eleven children were born to them. Of these, three died in infancy and two Lueretia and Ella, died after coming to years of maturity. The four sons living are William and Robert W. who are residents of Columbus Junction; D. M lives in Texas and James A. is a resident of Kansas, while the surviving daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Deihi, lives with her husband in Missouri. Mr. Owen had been in declining health for several years. About two years ago he suffered a paralytic stroke since which his decline has been more rapid. His last hours were made as peaceful as kind hands and loving hearts could make them. Mrs. Owen desires especially to record and extend thanks to the kind hearted people of Niangua for their devotion and kindness to herself and husband during his long sickness among them. The remains were brought to this place for burial. The funeral was held from the Methodist church Sunday, February 28, at 3 o'clock p. m., service being conducted by Rev. J. M. Jones. A very large attendance at the funeral, despite the inclement weather, testified to the universal esteem the deceased was held. Mr. Owen moved from Kentucky in 1854 coming directly to Iowa, which was his home until his removal to Missouri about a year since.
