Richard John Hughes died August 22, 1895 at 1 a. m. after five days of suffering. All that human hands could help was given to him, but all in vain; the sever kick he received the Saturday before proved fatal. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Rev. R. Hughes and lived in Iowa 22 years. He was married to Miss ? Jane Davies, February 1889 and since then resided across the road from his father's farm. He was universally respected among his acquaintances, ? an excellent character, was naturally sociable and pleasant in his company very kind hearted man, and always liberal in his contributions forward everything; was a man of good judgment and would weigh and balance every thing in his mind before he would speak, therefore possessed good judgment. In his death we can say it is a great loss to the community, as a good neighbor and as a church member, and a greater loss to his beloved wife and his aged parents, who he has been taking care of for the last 20 years. He was always with them at home except for a year at Denver, Colo., when in search of health. He left to mourn his loss three brothers ad five sisters besides his parents and his dear wife.
