Christian Schmidt was born in Saxony, Germany, June 9, 1827, making him 67 years 10 months and 20 days old at the time of his death. He came to this country thirty seven years ago. Was married to his wife, who now survives him, in Muscatine in 1861. Eleven children were the fruits of this union, seven of whom survive him. He was a resident of this place for 20 years; of Fredonia for five. He has long been an invalid and his sufferings were very severe. Funeral services occur at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Methodist church in Fredonia, to be conducted by the Rev. M. J. Pusey. Interment will take in the cemetery near that place.
