Fairview, March 23- Mrs. Lucy J. Alstot was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, Feb. 21, 1827, ans was united in marriage with E. T. Alstot in 1842, which union upon earth lasted 31 years. She came to Iowa with her husband 36 years ago, settling near Northfield in Des Moines county. Some years afterward they moved in the neighborhood of Fairview, where Mr. Alstot died in 1874. After this she remained on the farm with her son Otho until about a year ago when she moved Mediapolis, where she lived until the morning of March 16, 1895, when she passed away. She was 68 years and 23 days of age. She was for many years, a member of the M. E. church at Northfield. Her health has not been robust for some years but she was able to attend to business until about seven weeks before her death, when her health declined so that she was confined to her bed and it became evident that consumption had fastened upon her. During these weeks of illness she gave good evidence that she was entirely resigned to the will of God. She was patiently and quietly waiting for Jesus to come an pilot her over the river of death. She passed away quietly giving clear evidence to those around that all was well. The funeral was conducted at the house by Rev. Lovewell and Marsh. Then the remains were brought to Fairview on Sunday, March 17, and the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Tague from Rev. xiv:13, after the which her body was laid beside that of her husband in the Fairview church yard to await the resurrection morn. She leaves six children to mourn for her; four in the far west, William, who resides at Elrick and Otho, who cared for his mother these many years and was very faithful to her during her last illness.
