There was a ball at Shellabarger's hall at Letts Christmas night. Among those attending was Shamus Dalton, where ? ved with his mother, brothers and ?aters, a miles from town. After the dance, he took his young lady home, some three or four miles west of Letts and on his return met the accident that cost him his life. In crossing the track of the Rock Island road, his team was struck by the fast east bound express train that passes this point a little after 3 o'clock in the morning. The engineer says that when the team came in range of his head light, it seemed to be on a dead run and them seemed to be unmanageable and running away. It may be, however, that Mr. Dalton had whipped them up thinking he could pass ahead of the train. The facts will never be know as the team was run over and cut to pieces, while the unfortunate driver was instantly killed. The sudden death of this young man was shock to the entire community. He was the oldest of the Dalton family children, his age being about twenty-one. He leaves a widowed mother, three brothers and two sisters to mourn his untimely death. He was an industrious young man and will be sadly missed by the home circle. He was a Roman Catholic and will be buried in the Catholic cemetery north of Letts, Friday of this week.
