Mrs. Elizabeth Glennon, wife of John Welch, was born in Manchester, England, May 11, 1830, and died at her home in Columbus City, Iowa, July 2, 1894, aged 64 years, 1 month and 21 days after an illness of three months. She was united in marriage to John Welch in Manchester in Sept, 1853. Eight children were born to them, four sons and four daughters. One daughter, Elizabeth, died in England and one son, William J., died near Columbus City. The others are all married except Maggie who lives at home. Mrs. Francis J. Osborn lives in Monmouth, John M. Welch, in Sedalia, Missouri; Geo. M., in Ainsworth, Iowa; Wm. S., in Washington, Iowa; Mrs ? E. Marshall, in Columbus City, Iowa. All the surviving children were present at her death except John, who had been to see his mother and had gone home and could not get back ? of the railroad strike. Mrs Welch united with the Baptist church in Columbus city in April 1889. She was laid to rest in the Columbus City cemetery to await the morning of the resurrection.
