Henry S. Todd died at his home in Union township, Wednesday morning, April 25, 1894, after an illness of some two months. he was at first taken with something like lung fever, but during his entire illness he was able to walk about the house almost every day. He was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 1836 and removed to Muscatine county, Iowa, with his parents in 1851. After two years he came with his parents to Union township where the remainder of his life was passed. He was one of seven children, three of whom survive him. These are R. H. Todd, father of O. S. Todd of the Safeguard, and two sisters, Misses Anna and Minerva, who lived with him. Mr. Todd was never married. He devoted himself to his sisters, who are heart-broken at his death, and who particularly have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement. Mr. Todd was for many years a member of the Reformed church and for the past fifteen years was an elder in that church, having been re-elected to that office only about a week before his death. He will be greatly missed in the neighborhood and in the church. His nephew, Edgar Todd, a son of his brother Oliver, who died several years since, made his home with him for some years, but his spring went to Washington. The funeral services were held at the home at 10 o'clock on Friday, April 28, conducted by his pastor, Rev. D. H. Fouse, and were very largely attended. The interment was in Columbus City cemetery.
