Margaret Ann Rotter, 71, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021, peacefully in her sleep at Colonial Manor. Margaret has lived at Colonial Manor for ten years due to dementia and Alzheimer’s. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Cambrian Cemetery. Due to Covid, family requests all that attend to wear a mask and social distance. Memorials may be directed to Colonial Manor in memory of Margaret instead of flowers. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com. The Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction is caring for Margaret’s family and arrangements.

Margaret was the only child of Perin W. and Hannah G. (Edwards) Rotter, born July 28, 1949, at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan. Margaret spent most of her younger years going to school in Flint, Michigan. Visiting her grandparents, Jim and Lillian Edwards’ farm in Columbus Junction, Iowa for summer vacations with her parents.

Margaret went to college at Ohio University where she received her PhD in speech pathology and audiology. She taught at the University of West Virginia, she was a professor teaching speech. She was there for five years. She then went to the Central Virginia Training School and taught for 20 years as a speech and audiology therapist. Central Virginia Training Center was the largest residential institution for epilepsy and mental disabilities. The Center was opened in 1910 and closed in 2012.

Margaret retired in 2000 and in the spring of 2002, she traveled with the HART adoption orginazation out of New York to China to adopt her only child, Grace (Gracie) Gayle Rotter.

Margaret loved to travel with her young daughter, traveling by bus or car. She loved her cats, bicycling and her Welsh heritage, going to many gatherings. She enjoyed meeting up with the “China Dolls” and going with all the parents and children who adopted from China that Sping of 2002. Margaret had many happy memories with her daughter, Gracie, who she loved very much, her aunt Mary, her dear friends in Virginia, Doris Cann and Marsha Burk, her many cousins and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her Aunt Mary, Uncle James Edwards and many extended family members.
