Benjamin Jennings died at his home in Columbus City, Iowa, September 4, 1893. He was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania, August 1, 1819, consequently he was only about a month over seventy-four years old at the time of his death. In 1840 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Jefferies. Fourteen years later, in 1854, he moved with her from Ohio and settled in Elm Grove township. Here Mrs. Jennings died ten years later. He was subsequently married to Mrs. Nancy Harris, who with one daughter, Miss Ginevra S., survive to mourn a husband's and a father's loss. To Mr. Jennings by his first wife were born eleven children, seven of who still survive. These are Mifflin and D. F. of Enterprise, Kansas; W. H., of Davenport, Nebraska; Taylor, Enoch and Mrs. Ellen ? of? Meter, Iowa and Al?, who lives at the old home farm in Elm Grove township. All these children were home to minister to his wants in his last sickness except F. F., who was kept at home by poor health. Mr. Jennings was an upright Christian gentleman and had been a consistent member of the baptist church sine the age of twenty-seven. In 1877 he was elected to the state legislature and performed the duties pertaining to that office with fidelity to his constituents and credit to himself. He was buried from the baptist church services being conducted by Elder Knapp of Ainsworth. Mr. Jennings was afflicted with blindness during the last ten years of his life, but he bore his infirmities with christian fortitude. He leaves many friends to mourn his loss.
