Columbus Gazette, Columbus Junction, Iowa Thursday, March 9, 1893 page 1

William Todd was born in New Jersey, October 20, 1805, and died at his home in Columbus Junction, Wednesday, March 1, 1893. This would bring him to the advanced age of 87 years, 4 months and 11 days, at the time of his death. He settled in Iowa, first in Muscatine, in 1837. The following year he came to Louisa county and took up the claim that became his home until death. He was married in 1840 to Mrs. Lucinda Bliven, mother of Hiram and Albert Bliven and sister to Captain Wheclock, an old pioneer of the county. Two children, James and Sophia, blessed this union; both now dead; Jame dying in 1866; the daughter, Mrs. W. B. Gelatt, died at her father's home in 1881. Mrs. Todd died in 1888. Mr. Todd's death was the result of gradual wearing out, and he suffered but little during his fatal illness. He was a man of strictest integrity, simple in all his habits and temperate in all things. Was not a member of any church though recognized by all as an honest man and good citizen. Funeral occurred Friday, services conducted by Rev. Williams assisted by Rev. Beade. The old pioneers will soon all be gone.
