Died, February 26, 1892, Uncle Johnny Barker, after an illness of some three months. His funeral was held in the Fredonia M.S. church, last sabbath at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Chew. The church was crowded and many could not get in. Mr. Barker was a good and highly respected citizen, and will be missed by his many fiends and relatives. He had reached the age of 72 years, 11 month and 15 days. He died trusting in the Savior.

John Barker.

This well known citizen was born in Ban, Germany, March 11, 1918, and died at his home in Concord township, Iowa, Friday 26th, 1892. He was therefore within a dew days of being 73 years old at the time of his death. His parents died when he was a small child, consequently his childhood advantages were limited. He worked in his native land as a farm laborer in March, 1851 he came to America. he landed at Baltimore, subsequently went to Pennsylvania. Here, July 4, 1852 he was united in marriage to Miss Maggie Sandler, a native of Germany and who came over to this country on the same vessel with Mr. Barger. The partner chosen at that time still survives him. In March, 1854, he came to Iowa and settled on the farm owned and occupied by him at the time of his death. Three children were the result of this union, only one of whom, Mrs. Margaret Reynolds, survives to mourn with her mother, his loss. Uncle John Barker was a sober, industrious, honest and successful man. He was an active worker in the M.C. church of which he had long been a prominent member. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. W. C. Chew, at the Methodist church. notwithstanding the almost impassable condition of the roads an immense throng testified by their presence the high esteem in which he was held by the community with whom he had lived for nearly forty years. His aged companion and daughter have the sympathy of all.
