Columbus Gazette, Columbus Junction, Iowa Friday, June 17, 1892 page 5

After six months of lingering illness, John McCurley, one of the county's well known and highly respected citizens passed away at his "Pleasant View" farm home on Sunday, June 12, 1892 at? p.m. His death was the result of general debility and a tumor or cancer in his stomach, which caused starvation. He bore his affliction with the upmost patience, waiting to meet his Savior and the angels whom he said were waiting for him just over Jordan and where he also said he would be free from all sorrow and pain. He died very quiet and remained conscious to the very last. John McCurley, a farmer of Columbus City township, was born June 7, ? in Lawrence county, Pennsylvania ? st the time of his death, fifty-? years and five days old. ** the rest is so faded in spots that I am not sure what it says**
