Robert Reaney was born in county Loudonderry, Ireland, in the year 1813 and died October 7th, 1888, aged 75 years. He emigrated to this country in the year 1830, but went back to Ireland in the fall of 1835 and was married to Miss Anna Burton, January 23, 1836, and returned at once to Philadelphia. here he worked as a machinist, principally, at one time being an engineer on the Cannden and Amboy, or Trenton, railroad between Philadelphia and New York, when they used wooden stringers with strap iron nailed on for rails. He moved to Chester, Pennsylvania, in May 1860 and was engaged in the shop yard of Reaney & Archibold as machinist. These are not the Deleware Iron Works of the Jas. Roach estate. He came to Iowa November 15, 1879 to engage in farming and has made Concord township, this county, his home ever since. He was deprived of his consort, May 5, 1880; since which time he has been with his youngest son and daughter. Deceased leaves two sons an one daughter to mourn his loss; also two brothers; Joseph Reaney of Fredonia, and William Reaney, of Augusta Georgia, out of a family of ten. He passed from life surrounded by his children, to join his companion gone before. He was a member of the Presbyterian church of this place, to which denomination he had belonged for more then 40 years. He is to be buried to-day, (Wednesday) at Cedar Bethel church at 2 o'clock, services to be conducted by Rev. Eggert and Dr. Johnson.
