Samuel Shields whose injuries at the hands of young Worley we noticed last week, died Thursday morning. Young Worley is in jail waiting the meeting of the grand jury in September. Shields funeral took place from the Evangelical church Friday at 10 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. Buck.

Shields was born in Ohio and, at the time of his death, was over 27 years old. He lives a wife, a daughter of "Dick" Sheridan, and three small children. It is a sad case, but one to have been looked for sooner or later. He was a good fellow, and industrious when sober, but very quarrelsome when under the influence of liquor. We were surprised that the Safguard should locate the trouble in an "empty box car near the grain house." The difficulty was in the little room generally called the office, at Gelatt and Stineman's tile yard but used mostly as a waiting place by boys when burning brick and tile. Neither Mr. Gelatt nor Stineman are in any way responsible for the affray; as they used every effort to prevent such gatherings at the place.
