Wednesday, June 20, 1888 page 4Wm. Van Auken, an old man, past 76 years, was drowned in the Iowa river a mile southeast of this place, yesterday about 5 o'clock in the evening. He and son, George, were engaged in taking up their fishing tackle when their boat upset throwing them both in the river. The current at the place of the accident was very swift. As we write, the body has not been recovered.
