Birdie Ash Dies at 77

Mrs. Birdie Ash, 77, long-time resident of Jefferson County, died early this morning at the local hospital. She had been in failing health for several years.

Arrangements are pending at the Weston Behner Funeral Home. In recent years, Mrs. Ash had made her home with her children at Wapello.

She was born July 1897 in Jefferson County, the daughter of John and Angeline Elmore Pickering. She was married to Frank Ash Feb. 21, 1917. He died May 10, 1948.

Mrs. Ash was a member of the West Ave. Baptist Church of Burlington. She is survived by the following children, all of Route 1, Wapello: Isabelle Ash, Mrs. Eloise Morrow and Laverne Ash. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. William Ruby, Brighton. Two brothers are deceased.
