James Johnson, Letts, dies in Vietnam war

Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Roy D. Johnson, Letts, that their son, James, died in Vietnam, March 3.
James Dean Johnson was born Feb. 16, 1950. His parents are Roy and Betty Lichtenwald Johnson.
He is also survived by two sisters, Susan Marie and Jill Lynette, both at home. His grandparents are Mrs. Mary Lichtenwald of Muscatine and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Johnson of Letts.
Jim attended Grandview Community church.
He graduated from L-M High school in 1968. While in high school he participated in football, track and band. He attended Muscatine Community college.
Johnson left for the service July 15, 1969, and received his basic training and advanced infantry training at Fort Polk, La. He arrived in Vietnam Jan. 5, 1970.
The body is scheduled to arrive in a few days. Services will be scheduled later.
James Johnson is the second Louisa county young man to die in the Vietnam war. Pfc. Burt Small, 20, Wapello, was killed last October 14.
