Mary Newell

Mary Evelyn Newell, 88, of Columbus Junction (Iowa) died Friday, October 22, 2004 at the Colonial Manor Care Center of Columbus Junction (Iowa). Funeral services were Monday morning at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction with Kyle Soukup officiating. Pallbearers were Susan Foster, Ramona Wink, Steven Arteaga, Adam Faler, Brenna Hamrick, Eben Faler, Adrienne McFarland-Nippoldt, Joel McFarland and Elyssa McFarland. Burial was in the Indian Creek Cemetery (Louisa County, Iowa). Following the service at the cemetery a time of food and fellowship was held at the Pleasant Grove Church.

Visitation was held 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established at the funeral home.

Mary Evelyn West was born March 16, 1916 in Letts, Iowa, the daughter of Edgar and Mary E. Bryant West. She was united in marriage to Lewis Newell on July 11, 1933 in Illinois.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Pleasant Grove Community Church, a 4-H leader and an officer for the Louisa County Women’s Farm Bureau. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and cooking, but most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her family and many friends.

Mary will be dearly missed by her four daughters, Sharon Arteaga and her husband Al of Panama City, Florida, Mary Frances Paulding and her husband Tom of Hillsboro, Illinois, Melody Evans and her husband Dennis of West Amana (Iowa), and Christine McFarland and her husband Tom of Columbus Junction (Iowa); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a special friend, Ranvir Singh and his wife Usha of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Tamara, and four brothers, Lee, Leonard, Bennett, and Clifford.
