PROMINENT IOWAN IS DEAD

E.F.BROCKWAY, OF LETTS, SUDDENLY SUCCUMBS TO HEART DISEASE TODAY.

DEATH UNEXPECTED

Had Been Slightly Ill But Fatality Was Not Thought Of--Well Known in Temperance Work--Formerly a State Legislator.

Letts. Ia., April 20. --(Special.)--
E.F. Brockway, a well known stock raiser and prominent temperance worker and advocate who resided on his farm three miles south of here, passed away suddenly at his home this morning at 11 o'clock, as the result of an attack of heart failure.

Mr. Brockway had been ailing for the past week or ten days but had only been confined to his bed during the last two or three days, and his illness was not regarded as unusually serious by either physicians or family. At a late hour this morning however, he was taken suddenly worse and shortly afterwards passed away.

The news of his sudden death is a terrific shock to this community in which he held so prominent a place. Mr. Brockway moved to his present home from Washington county some seven or eight years ago. While a resident of the last named county he served as a representative in the state legislature during several terms. He had always been very prominent as a temperance worker, both locally and in the state movement.

Mr. Brockway who was a man 75 years of age, is survived by his wife and three children, two daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Libbie Darrow, Miss Allie Brockway and James Brockway, all of whom reside at home. James Brockway is the state secretary of the Corn Belt Meat Producers' association.

Funeral Services.

The deceased was a former resident of Muscatine county, having come to this county as early as 1842. From here he moved to Washington county.

The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the family residence. The services will be conducted by Rev. Longnecker, of the Prsebyterian church at Grandview. Interment will be made in the Grandview cemetery.
