Miss Mildred Spaethe dies in Colorado

The community was deeply grieved Tuesday morning when a message was received from Colorado Springs, announcing the death of Miss Mildred Spaethe at 9 o'clock Monday evening.

She was stricken a few months ago with tuberculosis at her home in Burlington. She came to Columbus Junction early in the summer and remained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ris Jennings until three weeks ago when she was taken to Green River, Wyoming, by her aunt, Mrs. Glenn Spaethe, and brother Lyle Spaethe in the hope that the change of climate would be of benefit to her. From there she was taken to a sanitarium at Cragnor, Colorado, where she died a few hours after she arrived.

Mildred Spaethe was born February 22, 1909, near Morning Sun, Iowa. She attended the Columbus Junction high school and graduated with the class of 1927. While in school, she was particularly interested in athletics and for several years was one of the star members of the girls basket ball team.

She is survived by her father, Curtis Spaethe and her brothers, Dean and Eugene of Burlington and Lyle Spaethe of Echo, Utah and her grandmother, Mrs. Thomas Willett of Columbus City.

The body was brought to Columbus Junction this Thursday afternoon from West Liberty and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jennings.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in this city at 2:30 Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.T. Aikin and Rev. J.W. Zerbe.

Interment at Columbus City cemetery.
